How to Use Tripz Expenses
Trips, splitting, settling up, and managing your account.
Trips & members
A trip groups expenses for one occasion: a weekend away, a shared apartment, anything with costs split between people. Invite others by link, code, QR code, or email, or add someone who isn't on the app at all (see below).
Adding friends without an account
Not everyone needs the app to be tracked. Add a friend by name from the Members screen and include them in any expense's split. They'll show up in balances and settle-up like anyone else, they just won't get their own login.
Splitting expenses
Every expense is paid by one person and split among whoever it applies to: equally, or by exact custom amounts. The app keeps a running balance of who paid more than their share and who owes the difference.
Settling up
Tripz never moves real money. No payments happen inside the app. It only tracks who owes what. When someone pays you back in real life (cash, a bank transfer, whatever works for you), tap "Mark as paid" to record it and keep the balance accurate.
Currency conversion
Set a main currency in Settings and any expense logged in a different currency shows a live converted estimate alongside the original amount.
Receipt scanning
When adding an expense, snap or upload a photo of the receipt and the amount, date, and category fill in automatically.
Deleting your Tripz Expenses account
You can delete your Tripz Expenses account and its data at any time. Tripz Expenses is made by Randa Victor.
In the app or on the website
- Open Settings.
- Tap "Manage account".
- Tap "Delete account" near the bottom.
- Type your current password and tap "Delete my account".
Your account is deleted straight away. If you own a trip that has other people in it, delete that trip first, or email us and we will help.
Without the app
Email hello@tripzexpenses.com from the email address of your account, or use the Contact form on this site, and ask us to delete your account. We answer and delete it within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm from that email address first, so that nobody else can delete your account.
What is deleted
- Your login: your email address and password.
- Your profile: your notification choices, and your display name unless it is still needed in a shared trip (see below).
- Every trip that only you are in, with its expenses, settlements and receipt photos.
- Your phone's registration for notifications.
What is kept, and for how long
- Shared trips: expenses and settlements you were part of stay visible to the other members of that trip, under your display name, with no email address and no login. They stay until those members delete them or the trip.
- Backups: encrypted backups are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted. Deleted data can remain in a backup until then.
- Scan log: the record that a receipt or voice scan took place (never the photo, the recording or what was read) is kept for up to 90 days, no longer linked to you.
- Emails the app sent to you (verification, password reset, invites, activity notices): the service that sends them keeps a copy for up to 30 days.
- Messages you sent us through the Contact form or by email, kept in our email inbox: up to 2 years.
Deleting only some of your data
You can delete a single expense, a receipt photo or a whole trip yourself at any time, without deleting your account. If you use the app without an account (preview mode), everything is deleted automatically after 7 days without activity.
